Who is Omar Askalan?

Omar Askalan is an agricultural engineer and irrigation (Ph.D.). He is an expert in irrigation design, Geographic Information System (GIS), data analysis, data science, automation irrigation, greenhouse structures, water safety, Somali farming investment, and consulting services in the areas of agriculture, water management, irrigation development, and management, climate change, and who is capable of developing a comprehensive insight to plan, prepare, manage, and operate water, irrigation, and environmental projects at different scales (small, medium, and large at the national, regional, and international level).
{My mission is to help student and make them skilled students before they finish their bachelor’s degree, It’s my job as an agricultural engineer to teach the young agricultural engineers how to become professional agricultural engineers, “Grow with agri-skills person.”}

- Somali agriculture (land and water resources).
- Sustainable irrigation management.
- Data science (machine learning) applications in agricultural water management.
- Irrigation machinery and systems irrigation, applications irrigation methods and techniques.

IHH and TIKA | From September 2013 to November 2020, I worked for Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), and we have been working together on the “Productive Agriculture” project in Mogadishu, Somalia. |
Zamzam University of Science and Technology | From January 2014 to September 2018: I had worked with Zamzam University of Science and Technology as a practical teacher, giving the students practice in greenhouses and open fields, modern irrigation, fertilization, pests, and disease control in Mogadishu, Somalia. |
